You can enjoy Dubai on a budget by combining free sights, public transport and one carefully chosen paid highlight. Prices change often, so check them on the official sites before you book.

1. Use the free sights first

The Dubai Fountain, JBR Beach, Kite Beach, Al Fahidi, Al Seef and the Palm boardwalk are all free. See Things to Do in Dubai for Free.

2. Use the Metro and Tram

The Metro Red Line passes Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, the Financial Centre, Dubai Marina and Mall of the Emirates. The Green Line serves Deira and Bur Dubai, including the Gold Souq. The Tram covers the Marina and JBR. All of them use the Nol card, which you tap in and out and can buy at Metro stations, ticket machines and the airport.

3. Cross the Creek by abra

The traditional abra boat is a low-cost way to cross Dubai Creek between Bur Dubai and Deira, and it is a sight in itself.

4. Choose one paid highlight

Pick the experience you care about most, and compare similar tours before you book. The Burj Khalifa is the usual choice.

5. Stay near a Metro station

Staying near a Metro line saves on transfers, whichever area you pick.

6. Travel in the cooler months

Outdoor sightseeing is easier from December to March. In summer, plan indoor time. See Things to Do in Dubai in Summer.
